Making Over My Evenings {Day 6}

I'm working my way through Crystal Paine's new course, Makeover Your Evenings- 14 days of videos, reading, and projects designed to bring more order, rest, and productivity into your life. If you'd like to grab the course and work through it right along with me, you can do so here. Each weekday night I'll be posting my takeaway from the day's coursework. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it and how you are making over your own evenings!

Best quote from today's workbook reading: "If you make sleep a priority, it will have a positive trickle-down effect into almost every other area of your life."

I believe this. I really, really believe this.

If you are tired of reading so many posts about my desperate desire to go to bed earlier every night and my continuous failure to do so... if you feel like I'm beating a dead horse... I gotta tell you, I feel the same way. I'm sick of writing about it and I'm sick of living it.

Over the past several weeks I've been in bed by ten about 20% of the time. The nights that I haven't are half reckless irresponsibility, and half attempting to be more considerate of my husband. I'm struggling to find a balance {our relationship needs vs. my sleep needs} and I'm struggling to discipline myself consistently. That's real life for you, isn't it?

I love dreaming up and writing about my ideals. It's much harder for me to flesh them out faithfully in my reality. Remember this as you read here- on the slight chance that I have good ideas or helpful insights, I'm a fallen woman who sins a lot, falls short of God's Law and her own ideals every single day, and does not have her act together. I need lots of grace! What you read on my blog is what I want to be, not necessarily what I am.

Today's assignment had me reexamining the importance of sleep, all the things that I allow to sidetrack me from it, and ideas for making better choices in this department. Definitely the help I need, and the entire reason this course interested me in the first place.

As I'm posting this, ironically and unfortunately it is already after ten. We had out of town company with us for dinner, and the last week has been non-stop busy with Niall finishing up his semester, extra church responsibilities, and a few special occasions with friends. So tonight I am super late, once again... but hoping to move forward. I'm off to bed now, hoping to try again and do a little better tomorrow. A little improvement each day, one day at a time.

How are you doing at getting enough rest? What's been your biggest takeaway from Makeover Your Evenings so far?
