I saw this great idea on Pinterest, and I quote:
"House smelling weird? Put two caps full of vanilla extract in a coffee cup, then place it in the oven at 300 degrees for one hour. Within twenty minutes the whole house smells like Heaven. It's actually a common realtor trick."
Sounded pretty good to me. It was easy enough to do, and boasted such great results.
I dumped a generous two (ok, maybe three) caps full of vanilla into a sturdy mug and turned the oven on, fully prepared for magic to happen.
About twenty minutes in, my kitchen did smell pretty nice. The hour came and went, however, and the rest of my home was unreached by the heavenly odors.
Maybe it's because my house is so sectioned off, and the kitchen is tucked way in the back of the house. Maybe it would work better with a more open floor plan. But with the grandiose promise it gave, I have to say I'm pretty disappointed.
Good think it was only two caps of pure vanilla extract, huh ;)?
In the meantime I'm thinking of giving these alternative and natural air fresheners a shot:
Essential Oil and Baking Soda
Lemon and Rosemary
What natural air fresheners do you use around your home?
