A Princess Birthday Tea Party
As I mentioned earlier this week, S turned four on Monday. To honor the birthday girl we threw a very pink, loosely princess-themed, tea party lunch. The festivities took place mostly on my back porch. Not a gorgeous space {note the crayon markings on the walls and paint stains on the carpet}, but it definitely worked.
In the spirit of simplicity, there were no games or structured order- just lunch and cake and kids running around together. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
We served tea sandwiches {tuna salad, ham and cheese, jelly with cream cheese}, fruit, veggies with hummus, and a cheese and cracker tray. The kids were delighted to drink hot chocolate from a tea pot with their cups and saucers, even if the day was a bit warmish.
My talented friend Jill graciously decorated the cake for me. While I enjoy making tasty edibles, I'm not known for making pretty ones, ha ha. So that was nice. S was enchanted by it.
Our only "party favor" were little silver wands I found at Hobby Lobby for $2.99. I used them as place cards {labeled with washi tape}, and the kids enjoyed chasing each other with them.
I made the tissue paper pom poms, and good news- they really don't have to be perfect to be beautiful! Several tutorials I read made me nervous, but I gave it a go anyway. Despite several blunders on my part, they still came out really pretty. If you'd like to try your hand at them, google or pinterest search it, and read until you find a tutorial that clicks with you. They are all pretty much the same, but some communicators are easier to follow than others.
A lovely time was had by all... and before I knew it, the party was over in a blur.
